With the amazingly appealing Macan, Porsche proves that a cross-over can drive like a sports car. Its spellbinding performance and unflappable poise are the primary reasons we named the 2018 model to our 10Best SUVs and Trucks list.  Under its curvaceous shell are a couple of available engines-a base 248-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and a turbocharged V-6 making 348 horsepower in the S model. Every Macan comes with a seven-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Undoubtedly, some competitors are more affordable and practical, but they don't cast a spell on their drivers in the same way that the Porsche does. It truly sets the bar for what crossovers can be.

What's New For 2019

Picture
The 2019 Porsche Macan is modified for this year and features refreshed exterior styling that includes updated front and rear bumpers, new taillamps that span the width of the liftgate, and new wheel designs. The base Macan receives a 248-hp turbocharged four-cylinder and the high-performance S model comes with a 348-hp turbo V-6; the Turbo and GTS models have not yet been introduced for 2019, but will probably carry more punch than the S when they ultimately return. The suspension is retuned this season as well, although the Macan already is  one of the best handling crossovers of 2018. The Macan also sees a few interior changes, the most notable one being the new, larger 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system and standard 4G LTE onboard Wi-Fi feature.

Porsche Macan Pricing and Which One to Buy

Porsche Macan Reliability

If it had been going in our garage, we would pick the Macan S. It's quick, fun to drive, and gives the top performance in the current 2019 Macan lineup. Interior trim varies only a little from the entry-level Macan to the Macan S, so most of the price bump between models is associated with modifications to the powertrain and other mechanical gear. Standard features in the Macan S have a 10.9-inch touchscreen infotainment display, a 10-speaker audio system, LED headlamps, and all-wheel drive. It's easy to add thousands of dollars to the cost of your Porsche by ticking boxes on the options list, however it is better to exercise restraint when staring down the Macan's order list otherwise this Porsche be the last thing you can buy to buy.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

Likes: Quick as some two-door Porsches, sharp-shifting gearbox, responsive brake pedal.

Dislikes: It isn't a sports car.

We've yet to test the turbocharged four-cylinder which powers the base Macan, nor have we strapped our test equipment to the new turbo V-6 seen in the Macan S. We expect the excess power from the new V-6 engine can cause very small improvements in efficiency versus last year's Macan S, that was run by a 340-hp twin-turbo V-6 that strike 60 mph in just 5.1 seconds, the exact same result delivered by both the Jaguar F-Pace S and Audi SQ5. It's objectively needless for an SUV to launch off the line as quickly as the Macan does, but that does not stop us from enjoying the ride.
Picture
Quickness is important in a crossover with sport intentions, but we would not be nearly as satisfied with the Macan if it wasn't for its all-around efficiency on the road. The ride is wonderfully smooth and carefully controlled, and it's exceptional for a jolt from the road to make its way up through the cabin. The Macan's tenacious attitude in corners makes it feel steady and planted. The steering is a little lighter than in Porsche's sports cars, but still hyperaccurate and pleasantly tactile. You can ride this Macan hard, and it reacts like a top-ranked sports sedan.

Gas Mileage and Real-World MPG

The Macan's EPA ratings are very similar to those of its competitors, while some competitors have better numbers on the highway. After we get the updated Macan and Macan S into our garage for testing, we'll send both on our 200-mile real-world fuel-economy test route to determine how the EPA's ratings hold up under normal running conditions.

Interior, Infotainment, and Cargo

Likes: Upscale materials and features are available-for a price; better than Porsche's sports cars.

Dislikes: Shrunken rear seat, does not have standard luxuries, no Android Auto, limited carry-on capacity.

The Macan's regular interior fittings are a dissatisfaction in a crossover of that price and provenance, and it's expensive to outfit one in a way that befits the Porsche crest. Additionally, there is much less space for rear-seat passengers in the Macan than in most competitors. The Macan's power-adjustable seating for the driver and front-seat passenger are the only pieces of standard interior equipment that feel even remotely luxurious. It's possible to have the entire interior covered in leather, which would partly address the problem, but the $2130 that Porsche asks for outlining just the front air vents in leather feels like price gouging, even for Porsche.

Porsche's infotainment system can be had with all manner of high-tech functions. But, as with almost everything on the Macan's equipment list, enjoying those features will cost you. USB slots and 12-volt sockets are sprinkled everywhere in the cabin, so passengers and driver alike should be able to keep their devices fully charged. With the standard mobile Wi-Fi package on board, the family data plan might be able to avoid a road trip unscathed, too.

A small cargo hold and little interior cubbies make the Macan among the least practical cars in this group. But when has purchasing a Porsche ever been a sensible choice? We fit six carry-on bags in the cargo bay and Sixteen with the back seats folded, that should be enough for most people.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

The Macan has not been tested by either crash-test agency (nor has any other Porsche currently available for sale, for that matter). The Macan can be had with a range of driver-assistance technologies, but almost none of it's standard. Key safety features include:

🚘- Available Automatic Emergency Braking
🚘 - Typical Lane-Departure Warning
🚘 - Maintenance And Warranty Coverage
🚘 - Available Adaptive Cruise Control

Porsche's warranty protection is nice but not great; the F-Pace and the Cadillac XT5 offer better coverage in certain areas.

Limited warranty protects 4 years or Fifty,Thousand miles
Powertrain warranty covers Four years or Fifty,000 miles
Free maintenance is covered for One year or Ten,Thousand miles
